The Greenbean team has significant experience in both the development of postharvest treatments and their application through out the supply chain. We have worked with a number of technology companies who are developing novel solutions to reduce postharvest losses caused by insects and diseases, mechanical damage and physiological disorders e.g. browning reactions.

Our aim to help our customers understand the full extent of the benefits that their technology could bring to the fresh produce industry, as well as identify shortfalls at an early stage and advise them on potential solutions. We believe that a carefully thought out product development strategy is key to being successful and reducing cost.

CASE STUDY – Antimicrobial and antioxidant coatings
We have worked with a company specializing in the development of antimicrobial and antioxidant coatings for prevention of pathogen development and physiological disorders. Our clients requested testing and verification of their treatments’ effectiveness on a number of whole and minimally processed produce i.e. salad items, melons, apples and pears.

CASE STUDY – Antimicrobial and anti-sprouting treatments
One area of great interest to Greenbean is the replacement of synthetic plant protection products and physiological inhibitors with naturally occurring substances for both pre- and postharvest treatments. Our team has worked in this field for a number of years and we believe we can bring unique insights to this area of postharvest innovation.

We can carry out research in the following areas:

  • Investigations of the efficacy and acceptability of new and emerging technologies
  • Optimization of new and existing postharvest treatments
  • Development of new applications
