Greenbean Scientific Ltd is situated in the heart of Kent, a region of the UK known as the ‘Garden of England’. Kent has good local transport links, a wide range of growers, importers and packers of fruit and vegetables and is close to London with its key seaports and airports.
Located at Kent Science Park (KSP) near Sittingbourne we have a number of laboratories for microbiology, produce quality assessment and chemistry. In addition we have a suite of bespoke temperature controlled rooms, based at a local packhouse, and can locally access large scale temperature controlled and CA facilities, commercial packhouses and refrigerated containers.
Our goal is to cost effectively bridge the gap between academia and industry using our skills, experience and facilities to support technological advances, provide independent well-managed trials and deliver practical advice and solutions to the fresh produce industry. (see Technical R&D)
The above facilities allow us to offer the following services:
- Determination of the optimal storage requirements for a range of products to maximize post-harvest life whilst maintaining quality and food safety
- Shelf-life evaluations (including: storage regimes, packaging, post-harvest treatments, varieties)
- Optimisation of ripening protocols
- Optimisation of international and national transportation of horticultural products i.e. sea, air and road
- Identification and provision of solutions to resolve issues relating to produce defects e.g. physiological disorders, physical, pests* and diseases and taints* (chemical, biological)
- Evaluation of packaging technologies (including MAP)
- Evaluation of post-harvest technologies
- Microbial bioassays and challenge tests
- Sensory evaluation and consumer testing*
